What is Kitchrie, Kichari or Khichadi?

Kitchari is a traditional Ayurvedic dish that’s known for its ability to detox the body and balance all three doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. For yogis that want to cleanse the body and soul in a gentle

manner, kitchari provides ample nutrients while pushing the junk out of your body. In India, kitchrie is often the first food for babies, not only because it is so easy to digest, it also heals and soothes the intestinal wall.

Kitchrie is the ritual meal offered at a Hindu wedding feast to the groom by the bride’s side of family. This follows the exchange of nuptial vows and before the return of the groom and his bride to his home. Eating expresses the groom’s satisfaction: but he may ask for more gifts or money before eating. When the groom is compliant all is well. But a greedy and acquisitive groom by refusing to eat expresses dissatisfaction.

This leads to trouble…
